Velo Avanti Cycling Team

The
Team
Membership in
Velo
Avanti has grown from 15
original members in 1985 (then known as Brea Velo) to one of the
Western United States larger racing clubs. Membership consists of men
and women of various age classes including Juniors (ages 10-18),
Seniors (ages 19-29), and Masters (ages 30 and older).
Velo Avanti is also a charter
member of the Southern California Youth Cycling Association (SCYCA)
which was organized with the goal of introducing youth to
the sport of
competitive cycling. Over the years our members have changed as well as
our appearance. Every two years we update our team colors for a new
look and feel. We are dedicated to the promotion of bicycling as a
sport and a recreational activity.
We promote
two
races a year. We start off each racing season with
Roger Millikan Memorial St.
Valentine's Day Massacre. The
course is slightly sloped four corner 0.7 mile criterium course. The
road surface is good, and the corners are wide. This race is well
attended and a great way to begin the bicycle racing year. The St.
Valentine's Day Massacre is held in Brea at the intersection Delta
Avenue and Lambert Road.
The second
race
which we promote has also became famous over the years is the
La
Mirada Grand Prix. The La Mirada
Grand Prix is not a criterium or a road race. It is more of a circuit
race. The course is two miles, four corner circuit over rolling
terrain. To make the race interesting we have included a quarter mile
POWER climb out of turn one. A short incline precedes sprint to finish
line.
We invite you
to
explore our website. If you are more adventurous and enjoy Bicycling
come join our club. Whatever you do, do not miss our races. Come race
and watch.
